The Heroines of AbEx

Southampton, NY

Booth 146

A small sampling of the famed museum tour, the Heroines of Abstract Expressionism: From the New York School to The Hamptons — makes a 4-day stop in the de Kooning Pavilion. Previously shown at the Fenimore Art Museum, The Nassau County Museum of Art, and the Southampton Arts Center with rave reviews that helped excite the recent major rediscovery and long overdue reevaluation of these previously overlooked talented artists. While the movement was best known for its male superstars, (these 2 Pavilions are named after them), many women were also important pioneers of the genre. This exhibit showcases works that are both visually mesmerizing and technically complex. This display will showcase iconic pieces by several of the so-called First Generation prominent women AbEx artists of the New York School, 1950-60s era. The museum-oriented display features important works by Louise Nevelson, Hedde Sterne, Joan Mitchell, Lynne Drexler, Dusti Bonge, Yvonne Thomas, Janice Biala and Corrine Michael West. And unlike the museum show, these works are  available for immediate acquisition.
