Before Superstorm Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore, artist Susan Roche was already disillusioned by personal betrayals; after the storm, people, some strangers, helped her rebuild. They showed her such goodness; this is reflected in her work. 

While restoring her home and business, a friend repaired his pool as a refuge for her. Immersed in saltwater, among mangled boat lifts, half-destroyed structures, and homes along the Barnegat Bay, she saw ethereal images underwater. 

New work emerged, beginning in the water, underwater, with photography. Each piece is an original with master printmaking, additions of oils, pastels, cold wax, encaustic, scraping, etching, or/and even needlework.
